The Department of Energy has approved “The Process Rule” that dictates how energy efficiency standards for equipment are created and updated. They say the changes modernize the process, but other organizations have other opinions.
The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy says that The Process Rule will add time to “an already lengthy standard setting process.”
The Natural Resources Defense Council says that The Process Rule will adopt industry-developed test procedures to evaluate the energy efficiency of appliances, equipment, and electronics. This creates obvious conflict of interest issues.
Facility Managers need to think about how these rules will impact your business. Less efficient machinery and appliances mean higher electricity bills. This is problematic for the obvious economic reasons, but also for businesses that are trying to be environmentally friendly and cut emissions.
