As the Coronavirus (Covid-19) continues to spread, it is important for everyone to remain calm and take steps to keep ourselves safe. Here are some tips from OSHA and the CDC on how to keep Covid-19 from spreading in your workplace:
- Let sick employees stay home: allow employees with respiratory illness and a fever over 100.4° F to stay home until they have been fever free for 24 hours. Be flexible about sick leave, do not punish employees for taking sick leave and do not require employees to provide a doctor’s note to prove they are ill. The goal is to make it easy for sick people to stay home and avoid spreading their illness.
- Encourage Good Hygiene: Studies have shown that only 65% of women and 31% of men wash their hands. Ask employees to wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds when they arrive. If you have hand sanitizer, provide it at the entrance to your workplace. Ask employees to sneeze into their elbow or a tissue.
- Routine cleaning: Disinfect surfaces people touch regularly, like workstations, doorknobs and keyboards.
