Just what is a clinical engineer? In modern times, hospitals rely more on technology to help them do everything from storing patient records to assisting during surgery. A clinical engineer is someone who brings medicine, engineering and IT together in a clinical setting.

Here are some of the things a clinical engineer does:

1. Managing medical equipment systems

    • Managing budgets and service contracts
    • Coordinating maintenance and IT
    • Ensuring the hospital meets with regulatory standards

2. Assessing new equipment and participating in clinical trials
3. Purchasing new equipment
4. Training technical and medical professionals on how to use equipment
5. Managing cybersecurity to protect medical devices and patient data
